As your trusted Newport Beach children’s dentist, Hersch Pediatric Dentistry aims to give each and every child an excellent head start on developing a lifetime of healthy smiles. Having said that, the initial step toward accomplishing this is by taking your child to his or her first visit to the local dentist for kids. We understand that many children may be fearful about their first visit, but we’re here to do whatever we can to alleviate your child’s anxieties and create an enjoyable first experience.
A Child's First Visit
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, it’s recommended that a child first visit the dentist either six months after his or her first tooth appears or by the age of one. At Hersch Pediatric Dentistry, we aim to make this first visit as enjoyable and positive for your child as possible. We want your child to get to know our doctors and become acclimated to our office. Having a comfortable first appointment will help put your child at ease for any future dental visits.
During this visit, we’ll record the child’s dental and medical history and complete a comprehensive examination. We’ll discuss any findings with you and we’ll also review the importance of maintaining a great dental health regimen for your child in order to ensure a healthy smile for life.
Comforting Your Child
While this first visit to the children’s dentist may make a child anxious, it’s important for parents to not make a big deal about it. Children can often pick up on these anxieties and become even more fearful. There’s no need to worry anyway – we’re completely experienced in working with anxious children. We’re capable of explaining treatment procedures in a positive manner that will help avoid any negative feelings about preventative dentistry. Also, as a provider of sedation dentistry for kids, we’re also able to administer sedatives for patients with severe dental phobias.
