Hersch Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics aims to be the highest quality pediatric dental practice for the Newport Beach, Orange County communities.

The road to straighter teeth is not always paved with metal! Our practice proudly provides the following orthodontic treatments to the Newport Beach surrounding areas; metal braces, Invisalign® and clear braces. While metal braces are the most commonly known, there are several alternatives such as Invisalign® and clear braces that are more discrete options to straightening teeth. Let’s break down the differences.

Invisalign

Invisalign® is a patented technology designed to straighten teeth without braces. Like traditional, metal braces, Invisalign® moves teeth in small steps over time. The Invisalign® system utilizes an advanced 3D computer graphics technology that works in tandem with the science of orthodontics.

What Is Invisalign?

InvisalignRather than using metal wires or brackets, Invisalign® uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth. The process begins with precise treatment instructions from your orthodontist. These instructions are translated into a 3D graphics technology to create a series of precision calculated clear teeth aligners. The aligners are only removed for brushing, flossing and eating. Every 2 weeks, a new – slightly modified aligner replaces the prior one causing the teeth to shift into their custom calibrated position.

Dr. Harrison, the Hersch Pediatric Orthodontist, is certified by Align Technology and can diagnose and treat using Invisalign®. If our Newport Beach orthodontists determine that you are a good candidate for Invisalign®, a plan is created to give you a custom-made smile.

Duration of Invisalign

The typical total treatment time for Invisalign® averages from 6 to 18 months. Within that time frame, our patients are given an average of 10-30 aligners. Hersch Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics suggests that our patients wear each set of Invisalign® aligners for 2-3 weeks.

When Should I Remove My Invisalign® Aligners?

Only remove your aligner to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Is it normal for your teeth to move?

Yes. It is normal for your teeth to move gradually each week.

How often should I visit my Newport Beach orthodontist?

We recommend that our patients visit our office every 8 to 10 weeks for progress checks.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are another alternative to metal braces, similar to Invisalign. There are many benefits to clear braces, such as being less noticeable to an average bypasser. Often times patients are able to carry on their normal lives without having a decrease in confidence because others are unable to spot their braces as easily from afar.

What Are Clear Braces?

Invisalign

Clear braces are not all made out of the same material. The material can range from ceramic or porcelain to a material similar to plastic. The determination of the material used is specific to your orthodontist and each patient. Contact your Newport Beach orthodontist to find out which material is right for you.

The clear braces are placed on top of your teeth, exactly like metal braces and have a similar treatment duration.

Duration of Clear Braces

Treatment time for clear braces is similar to metal braces, but can vary per patient. The average treatment duration can range from less than 12 months and up to 32 months.

Will my clear braces stain my teeth?

Similar to metal braces, you must be adamant about brushing and flossing your teeth regularly so that they do not stain your teeth. You are not at a higher risk of staining your teeth by having clear braces.

How often will my rubber bands be replaced?

The clear rubber bands will be replaced during every orthodontic visit.
